“People were created to be loved. Things were created to be used. The reason why the world is in chaos is because things are being loved and people are being used.”- Dalai Lama XIV
I thought about this quote as my wife and I looked at all the wonderful presents we received to be given to friends and loved ones under our beautifully decorated Christmas Tree. We both smiled and felt very blessed to have so much this year.
Today’s world is full of people using other people to get what they want or gain some advantage. On the other hand, the world is full of people who love the physiological and psychological benefits of obtaining goods or services.
God’s gift of Jesus to us is that we are loved, are never alone, and can have hope for the future. Out of remembrance of this special gift from God, we exchange gifts with loved ones, such as clothing, gift cards, toys, video games, smartphones, laptops, food, and candy.
Some other gifts you could give on this special day are:
Tell a person what you like most about them or notice something new about their appearance.
Hold hands with a loved one to show a sign of love, connection, and a reassuring gesture in tough times.
Send a simple text message to a friend or loved one and show them they're always on your mind.
Spend quality time with your family to help strengthen your relationships. Family bonding can be as simple as playing indoor games or cooking dinner together.
Compliment a loved one to help them feel good about themselves and build their confidence, such as what you like most about them or notice something new about their appearance.
Nothing is wrong with giving and receiving gifts on Christmas; however, we cannot lose focus on the wonderful gift God gave us on this day … Jesus!
