Toxic Organizational Culture
For the past 15 years, we have assisted organizations with environments where negative behaviors were ingrained within the invisible walls of their organizational culture. This is extremely harmful to employees, preventing them from being productive and growing professionally.
The formula we teach our clients to use is called the Operations Kanri Tsūru [管理ツール] (i.e., Management Tool):
(Mission, Vision, and Values) x (KPIs + SOPs) = Organizational Culture
A Mission Statement drives an organization through short-term Tactical Objectives. A Vision Statement describes the future-facing strategic goals and ambitions of an organization. Values are guiding principles that assist employees in realizing a common goal.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) denote the quantifiable measures that assist managers in evaluating their department’s short and long-term performance. KPIs that focus on future outcomes in performance are Leading Indicators, and KPIs that focus on past outcomes in performance are Lagging Indicators.
A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is a document that provides standardized instructions on how to complete an operational task. SOPs reduce operational errors and produce consistent results. We teach clients the Operations Kanri Tsūru [管理ツール] (i.e., Management Tool) that re-energizes an organization’s existing SOPs by making them living documents that can adapt to the ever-changing business environments.
Organizational culture is a company's values, beliefs, and rules that guide employee behavior. A Toxic Organizational Culture exists when an organization’s Mission, Vision, Values, KPIs, and SOPs do not correlate with the company's values, beliefs, and rules.
Mission statements that are too broad can't define an organization's philosophy in an original way and can't provide direction for employees. Vision statements that are too generalized can leave too many directions open and hinder progress.
Core values can lose meaning if they come from a base of conflict and confusion. KPIs that are misinterpreted or misused lead to inaccurate results and conclusions. Organizations with rigid SOPs may find it difficult to adapt to changing circumstances and are not flexible enough to accommodate changes in processes or tasks.
If your organization is experiencing a Toxic Organizational Culture, we can mitigate this ordeal. The Operational Scorecard Course teaches our clients how to create productive Mission and Vision statements, Values, KPIs, and SOPs and how to integrate them with SMART goal concepts to make these tools more efficient. Successful organizations focus on four evidence-based areas when creating these tools. To learn more about these four areas, click on this button:
